The Robey Theatre Company

Artistic Policy

The Robey Theatre Company's artistic vision is centered on the following beliefs:

  • Theatre is best experienced live

  • Theatre can be transformative, impactful, and  life-changing for both the performer and the audience member

  • Theatre should be equitable, inclusive and embrace diversity

  • Theatre organizations should always be reflecting their culture and ethos when producing plays

  • Theatre can inspire movements and arouse social change in the world

  • Theatre should be entertaining and moving audiences through an emotional labyrinth

  • Theatre arts organizations should be guided by their mission and use it to influence the creative process

The Robey Theatre Company approach to artistic decisions:

  • The Producing Artistic Director is responsible for gathering feedback and ensuring that our community of artists and creatives are heard and adhering to established policies and procedures.

  • The Producing Artistic Director reports to the Board of Directors bi-monthly for review and final approval.

  • The Robey Theatre Company is a community of artists whose feedback informs all artistic decisions.

  • The Producing Artistic Director guides the collaborative process and uses positive reinforcement methods to navigate a plays' often intangible and chaotic evolution.

  • The Robey Theatre Company is committed to producing original plays focusing on topics with socially conscious themes.

  • The Robey Theatre Company is committed to developing playwrights within the community and working collaboratively with artists and creatives in the intensive work from idea to production.

The Robey Theatre Company operates as a Non-Equity House and a strong advocate of paying fair and equitable wages to artists and creatives. The organization works to increase available funding for 99 Seat Theatres to support the "true cost" of producing plays in intimate settings.  To this end, The Robey Theatre Company's Board of Directors continues to govern the organization's financial position and complies with all legal standards.
